Overview

What is the CSCS Industry Placement Card?

The CSCS Industry Placement Card is a temporary Red CSCS Card for students and learners completing a construction-related qualification or training programme that includes a required period of industry work experience.

It is designed for people who need access to construction sites as part of their training, such as those completing T Levels, Foundation Apprenticeships and eligible trade-related Level 2 or Level 3 Certificates and Diplomas.

To qualify, your programme must normally include a minimum three-week industry placement, although certain publicly funded work placements may also be accepted.

You must also provide evidence that you are registered on the relevant qualification or training programme and meet the required health and safety requirements.

The Industry Placement Card is valid for two years and cannot be renewed.

Depending on your programme, this may include learners completing:

  • Construction T Levels

  • Trade-related Level 3 Certificates or Diplomas

  • Foundation or progression programmes

  • Certain sandwich degree placements

  • Other recognised construction training programmes that include an eligible industry placement

If you are completing a Degree Apprenticeship, you should normally apply for the CSCS Apprentice Card rather than the Industry Placement Card.

  • A Certificate of Unit Credit confirming completion of an accepted Construction Health and Safety unit as part of your induction or initial qualification

Frequently asked questions

Who can apply for a CSCS Industry Placement Card?

Students and learners enrolled on eligible construction-related qualifications or training programmes that include a qualifying industry placement may be eligible. These can include construction T Levels, Foundation Apprenticeships and certain Level 2 or Level 3 construction qualifications. Your course and placement must meet the current CSCS requirements.

What are the requirements for a CSCS Industry Placement Card?

You must be registered on an eligible construction-related training programme, provide evidence of your enrolment and meet the applicable health and safety requirements. Your programme must normally include a minimum three-week industry placement, unless an accepted alternative placement arrangement applies.

Which CITB test do I need for a CSCS Industry Placement Card?

Applicants taking the CITB test will normally need the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test for Operatives, passed within the previous two years. CSCS may accept certain alternative health and safety qualifications or evidence where the current requirements permit.

What documents are required for a CSCS Industry Placement Card?

You will need evidence of your registration on the eligible course or training programme. This may include a CSCS Industry Placement Enrolment Evidence Form or confirmation from your college, training provider or education organisation. You may also need your health and safety evidence, photo ID and a suitable photograph where required

How long is the CSCS Industry Placement Card valid?

The CSCS Industry Placement Card is valid for two years and cannot be renewed. You should check your next training or qualification route before the card expires, as your next CSCS card will depend on your programme and the qualifications you achieve.

Can UK Construction Support help me apply for a CSCS Industry Placement Card?

Yes. UK Construction Support can review your course and placement evidence, check your health and safety documents and assist with completing and submitting your application. Final approval depends on meeting the applicable CSCS requirements and CSCS's decision.

What happens after your placement?

The Industry Placement Card is valid for two years and cannot be renewed. Unlike some other temporary Red CSCS Cards, completing the qualification associated with an Industry Placement Card does not automatically make you eligible for a Skilled CSCS Card. Your next card depends on the training route you follow after completing your programme. If you progress onto a recognised apprenticeship, you may be eligible for the CSCS Apprentice Card. If you register onto an appropriate competence-assessed NVQ/SVQ or another recognised occupational competence qualification, you may instead qualify for the appropriate Trainee Card. Once you successfully complete a recognised apprenticeship, NVQ/SVQ or another accepted occupational competence qualification, you may then become eligible for the appropriate Skilled CSCS Card.
